High Level Review – Statement by Malaysia

Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar Deputy Minister of Home Affairs – Associate with China, drugs serious threat to Malaysia. Compromises security of the nation. 1983 declared threat to national security. Severe punishment including death penalty. Tourists using social passes and tourist visas have become drug mules. Plan to intensify treatment and rehabilitation of drug users. Police has a Special Tactics group to arrest international and national drug kingpins. Says drug policy is under control. Methamphetamine has resulted in huge problems. 

The National Anti-Drug Agency has 57 Cure and Care clinics, service centres, rehabilitation centres and vocational centres. Assisting drug users to get skills & jobs. Mobile Cure & Care clinic. Government agencies are also working with NGOs like Malaysian AIDS Council to introduce antiretroviral therapy and methadone for people in police remand. 
 
Continue to work with ASEAN to deal with drug issues. We understand that drug addiction is a complex health disorder. Ensure that future generations of Malaysians are not ruined by this drug menace.
