CND day 1. Latin American and Caribbean representative calls for greater cooperation

The group is pleased to hear the commission has adopted its amendments concerning the decision making process being made easier.

Because of the challenge in the administration of the international drug control system, it is necessary to establish a greater level shared responsibility. This should be guiding principal. The international nature of the issue means we must all share a commitment to this cause. The only manner to achieve progress is to strengthen shared responsibility and move forward with agreed consistent action.

An appeal is made to member states to bring down production and manufacture of drugs, with precursor drug issues being emphasised. The group also believes the world-wide nature of drug issues must shape national efforts. Financial resources must be strengthened without conditions being made and a more effective approach will involve mutually reinforcing the supply and demand control issues.
